Beautiful traditional Romanian Maramureș carpet, known locally as a “cergă,” handmade from natural wool in the northern region of Romania. The piece features a soft grey background decorated with colorful floral motifs in vivid shades of burgundy, pink, green, blue, purple and black. The central floral medallion is surrounded by additional flowers and botanical patterns, giving the carpet a distinctive traditional folk character.
The carpet is entirely handmade, with the characteristic rich, slightly rustic texture of traditional Maramureș wool textiles. Its shape and edges are irregular and naturally uneven, reflecting its handmade character rather than machine production.
There is a small repaired area along one side, which has caused a slight gathering/wave in the textile. There are also a few minor repairs in the central area, but these are subtle and not particularly noticeable when the carpet is displayed.
A charming example of Romanian folk art and traditional Maramureș textile craftsmanship, suitable as a decorative wall hanging, throw, coverlet, or traditional accent rug.
